Challenge #1: We need a theme song
Here at Toro Central, we’ve been scanning the radio, trying to come up with a theme song that’s distinctively ours. A quick survey of EPL / SPL teams turned up the following songs…
- Manchester City F.C. - “Blue Moon”
- Reading F.C.-”Sweet Caroline”
- Red Bull New York - “Stand by Me”
- West Ham United F.C. - “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles”
- Heart of Midlothian F.C. - “European Song” (to the tune of “My Way”)
- Celtic F.C. - “The Fields of Athenry”, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
- Liverpool F.C. - “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
- Chelsea F.C. - “Blue is the Colour”
- Manchester United F.C. - “United Road (Take Me Home)”, “Glory Glory Man United”, “Que Sera, Sera”, “The Red Flag”
- Chicago Fire - “Don’t Stop Living in the Red”, “Fire Till I Die”, ” Hot Time in the Old Town” , “Seven Nation Army”
- Melbourne Victory - “Seven Nation Army”
So what does Wikipedia list as the song for our Hoops?
- F.C. Dallas - “The Theme to Dallas (TV series)”
While we have nothing against JR and Sue Ellen, we’re ready leave the 1980’s (and its TV shows) alone for a bit and to find our new anthem… What are your suggestions?
Ideally, an anthem should be something that everybody knows and (preferably) something that’s easy to sing. Oh yeah, making it catchy helps, too. What are your favorite songs?
We’ve got a start on the Toros wiki here. Add your suggestions to the comments — or to the wiki page!

“American Music”, by the Violent Femmes: “Do you like [FC Dallas / Juan Toja / Oduro]? I like [...]“

Thanks…I will now be officially stumped on this for days…
By ElGringo on Oct 9, 2007
So we need something that will be easy to remember and easy to sing along with… i’m gonna think, this shit is hard
By stevetoro on Oct 9, 2007
how about ‘the gambler’? ‘you gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em…’ or is that too country (er, not rowdy enough) for us?
By stevetoro on Oct 9, 2007
Okay, now that I post that, I see this: England’s national rugby team has adopted “the Gambler” as their theme song: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/10/10/nrugby110.xml

Crank Dat, Soulja Boy!
By KirkBhoy on Oct 10, 2007
Gambling would aptly describe our team right now. Plus I like the song.
By ElGringo on Oct 10, 2007
If everyone could do a rap song, it’d be pretty original
By KirkBhoy on Oct 10, 2007
ElGringo,
Unfortunately, as much as I love hip-hop, I think it’d be original b/c its so hard to pull off for a large group.
Whatever it is, it needs to scale well so that 1000+ people can do it simultaneously.

I will post a rap song later Walterb but for now here it is: The Proclaimers - I would walk 500 miles.
By toja4ever on Oct 10, 2007
“I’m on My Way”, The Proclaimers is good too!
By Nathan on Oct 10, 2007
I like the Proclaimers.. but then I have a certain bias.. but, their stuff is well suited to a crowd. The chorus line to 500miles would sound really good. If it proves popular though, I think some of the lines should be changed to make it more FCD. For example the ‘NA NA NA NA’ could easily be substituted for a player’s name.
By walterb on Oct 10, 2007
I like it…someone work on an adaptation and let’s get it going…
By wolfhoundjack on Oct 10, 2007
This song might be too “hooligan-ish” but
The original is by Johnny Winter, the song is called “Dallas”
You can find a version of it on iTunes by Voodoo Weasel that just rocks!! (way better than Johnny’s blues original).

Okay, you asked what our favorite song is . . .My favorite soccer song is “Ole, Ole” by the Bouncing Souls, but I don’t think that would work for FCD (since the group is from somewhere like . . . Boston, is it?). Is there anyone who doesn’t know that song? Here’s a Utube link to a baaaaaaaaad Godzilla video that uses the song.

Sorry this might not help the cause to find an FCD theme song. . . but I just love this song! (Actually, NE is voting on a theme song on their website and the song is one of their choices. Oh, well . . .)
By la_fanatica on Oct 10, 2007
P.S. The FCD theme song CANNOT be “H-O-O-P-S, Yes!” I cannot stand that song . . . it sounds like it is being sung by a bunch of 14-yr-old cheerleaders . . .
By Levi on Oct 10, 2007
How about a chant that went something like this: We yell “Dallas, Dallas, Dallas” in rapid succession and then yell “We love you FC Dallas” then repeat. It might not be a good theme song; but we could use it none the less as a simple chant.

Here’s Miami U doing the Soulja Boy chant; but that makes sense for them.
By TheAidanArms on Oct 10, 2007
Yes - We need a theme song. The H-O-O-P-S song that they’ve been playing puts a smile on my face, but a song we can all collectively sing is definitely required. I think if we pick a particular tune, we could make up some basic lyrics which are easy to remember. If you’re getting support from the front office, we may be able to get the lyrics printed in the Roster flyer they hand out at the beginning of the match.
I have a couple that I do every match, but usually alone or with support of my friends:
- After we score and we are leading:
From the tune “Hey Baby- Ooo, Ahh”
“Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey Heyy DALLAS!
Oooooo-Ahhhhhh
I wanna know-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Tell me what’s the score?
Two - NIL!
As we sit right behind the other team this gets a really good reaction from them.
- Whenever the other team deserves it:
“Same ol’ , Always Cheating!”
- When the other team is being announced and even after they score to rally our boys:
“Who are they?
“Who are they?
“Who are they?
…and so on.
- I don’t find that the “F-C” “Dallas” chant works very well - doesn’t sound too strong to me. What about something like this:
“Let’s go Dallas!”
“Dallas Let’s Go!”
“Let’s go Dallas!”
“Dallas Let’s Go!”
…and so on…
- If you know English/european chants, I’m always up for the following (and I’ve seen an FC Dallas Til I Die banner):
“FC Dallas til I die,
Dallas til I die,
I think I am, I know I am
FC Dallas til I die!”
- We seriously need some good chants for the refs - the officiating has been miserable this summer, we need some good ones. “One Nil to the referee, One Nil to the referee…..” Same chant as this one I found:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixr2TiF2Ahg
- My wife and I absolutely love the England Vindaloo song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T1pXsJp_go
If we can get the FC Dallas guys to play this as the teams are walking out to the center of the pitch for introductions we can sing this song that alot of people are singing anyway. Substitute Dallas for England, and Steve Morrow for Vindaloo. We need something like this to let the other teams know they’ve entered OUR HOUSE. “We’re FC Dallas and we’re gonna score one more than you!”
Go FC Dallas!

We could do “Walk It Out” by Unk after someone gets up from an injury.
By walterb on Oct 10, 2007
Everyone, do not be shy to use the wiki link posted under songs and chants. Put your suggestion up and then we can work to edit the song or chant to improve it collectively.
By stevetoro on Oct 10, 2007
I like “Walk it out!”
By abrock123 on Oct 11, 2007
How about “The Eyes of Texas”. It’s easy an easy song and everybody knows it. It’s also a song that other people outside Los Toros would know and could sing along even if it was their first game to attend. I hate to say, but to get the whole stadium atmosphere, we’ll need something that EVERYONE in the stadium is gonna sing along to, in my opinion it’s not enough for a couple hundred in full throat and 10,000 warm bodies who only cheer for goals.
By stevetoro on Oct 11, 2007
I like it. But can we do “Eyes of Texas” without annoying non-UT grads?
By wolfhoundjack on Oct 12, 2007
Nope, not possible. Whoop, Gig’em.
By Nathan on Oct 13, 2007
hmm.. I know plenty of Anti-Ref chants.. but I might get thrown out of the park for singing some of them.
One of my favs used to be “Who’s yer father?” to the tune of “Oh my darling Clementine”.
Who’s yer father?
Who’s yer father?
Who’s yer father ref-eree?
You don’t have one
You’re a b*st*rd!
You’re a b*st*rd! Referee!
Other ones were…
Tune: Brown girl in the ring by BoneyM (showing my age).
name_of_ref wears a bra, tra-la-la-la
Used that one for John Greig as a kid all the time. (he was the Rangers FC captain)
By walterb on Oct 15, 2007
Nathan…”who’s yer father” is brilliant…th east side might have too many kiddies to do it though…we’ll see. The ref wears a bra is a must.
