The Ballad of Bob Mina

Posted by stevetoro On February - 29 - 2008

Buzz sez:

Contrary to what has been reported in other locations, FC Dallas Head Coach Steve Morrow says Roberto Mina has NOT been re-signed by the club.  The club is currently finalizing the deal in preparation for the Ecuadorian player to travel with the team to Brazil.  But the final details have not been worked out and the player is not yet on the FCD roster.

Whoopsies, Goff… you’re 0 for 2:  (link1, link2).

And with that, I’m out.  I’m off to write “I will not engage in idle speculation over a DC United Washington Post blogger’s posts again,” about 85 bazillion times.

Goff: Mina is back in Hoops

Posted by stevetoro On February - 28 - 2008

Goff is reporting that (as of 5:50 pm on Thursday) that Mina has signed with the Hoops.

The sides apparently overcame their differences today, allowing Ecuadoran forward Roberto Mina to sign a one-year contract. He will be on loan from a Latin American club with an option to buy. Two Western Conference clubs had expressed interest in purchasing Mina’s MLS rights from Dallas, and although a trade remains a possibility, Mina is scheduled to join FCD in Brazil this weekend for training camp.

Update: Buzz is linking to the same Goff report, and is trying to confirm with the FO.

Tex Hooper’s British Cousin, Fulham FC Billy Badger

I wonder if Billy Badger is, like most of Fulham, actually American. This is wacky and sad — and a joke — but I (for one) was glad to see that FCD’s not the only team with a crazy, somewhat inappropriate, mascot.

Over-under on the number of times Tex Hooper does his (her, its?) patented “bend-over-and-smack-that-rump” stripper mascot move during the home opener? Opening line’s set at 8.

Goff: Buzz is Big Bob bound for Boulder

Posted by stevetoro On February - 27 - 2008

(Err… It’s actually Commerce City, but who’s counting?)

The Washington Post’s usually reliable Steven Goff is reporting speculating that Big Bob may be headed elsewhere.   Like  Colorado.

But the process has dragged on and Mina, who played for Dallas last night, apparently wants to go elsewhere. The buzz is that two clubs overseas, as well as two MLS teams, are interested in his services, though his preference is to remain in America. (My hunch is that Colorado, which just today traded forward Nicolas Hernandez to Columbus, is one of the suitors and would love to have Mina as a target for recently acquired Christian Gomez.)

I don’t want to become MLSRumors, but I can’t help but think that we’re about to see some major personnel moves.  If Navia is to become a Hoop, Dallas will have to move someone to clear a Senior International spot.  Speculation (at least on  3rdDegree) is that this is likely to be Dom OduroMore after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
