Steve Morrow on the stunt that Roberto Mina just pulled (from the official FC Dallas blogsters):
“Just to bring everyone up to speed on Roberto Mina’s status with regard to our team.
There was a proposal sent to Roberto and his representatives before he came to Dallas that was agreed to by all parties. As we’ve stated before, we did not ask Roberto to come here on trial. He was here to prove his fitness, and obviously, having spent so long on the sidelines, we wanted to make sure his previous injuries did not limit what we already knew he was capable of on the field.
Okay, we get you, coach. Your hands are clean. What happened?
At that point, we informed his agent that we would like to proceed with the agreed-to contract to enable Roberto to join the team in Brazil. As with every other player, the final points on contracts are finalized by the league office.
On Friday afternoon, as the team was preparing to travel, with a flight for Roberto, his agents informed us that their talks with the league had collapsed. This came as a major surprise to us, after believing that all parties were happy and committed.
Regretfully at this point, Roberto and his agents have decided to move on and explore other opportunities.”
So, the “Ballad of Big Bob” comes to its sad end. How dare he stick the Front Office with one of those $250 American Airlines “change-of-ticket” penalties! I, for one, think that the Commish was out too late partying with the Sons of Ben Thursday night to actually give a crap about working out a deal with the Bobster. Damn you, SoBs, damn you!
But, life goes on…
With Navia making like Claude Makelele or Chamagol, et al. and not returning our calls anymore, and with talk now turning back to signing another one of the furacões from CAP, it seems like this year’s edition of Striker Search continues.
Who would you like to see playing alongside KC this year? A revamped Ricardinho? The fleet of foot Bird Man? Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink? Let us know!
