Sold! For a ham sandwich and a jammie donut.
Well… not quite. But if Gretna don’t come up with about $60k by lunchtime today, then I’m afriad that could well be their fate.

It is looking increasingly likely that they may not even be able to field a full squad in time for Saturday’s game against Aberdeeen.

It’s a sad day for Gretna and their fans, among whom they count our own SteveToro. Will he be forced to come out of his virtual closet? Heart of Lithuania beckons.
Thanks for the memories Gretna!

Yes, I’m a HMFC fan. Although I was on strike this year, due to the Gordon transfer. Guess it’s time to come back out as a supporter of the jam tarts…
So, for ol’ Nate:
“The northern lights of old Aberdeen
mean sweet f— all to me
The northern lights of Aberdeen
mean sweet f— all to me”
and for Kirkbhoy:
“A row, A row, Oh it’s 98 years in a row
A row, a row, oh it’s 98 years in a row
Oh they’ve won the league cup
And we don’t give a f—
Cos it’s 98 years in a row”
and for all of you Hearts supporters out there: (to the tune of “I will survive”):
“At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
Kept thinking hibs were gonna beat my famous Jambo side,
But then I spent so many hours,
drinking lager in a pub,
And then I knew…
Hearts were the greatest football club!
Go on now go
Go Jambos go
put the ball into the net and tell the hibbys where to go
They couldn’t beat us if they played the game all night
That’s ‘cos hibs are dirty, rotten, smelly first division S—-”

Yeah, it’s amazing what chants can emerge after 100+ years of playing the same teams over and over and over again.

This is what happens to a club that has 400 fans and is constantly running huge debts because they rely on their chain-smoking backer to keep writing off the losses.
Gretna is trying to stay alive until they play a real team in 1.5 weeks so they can get some revenue from the visiting fans. Doesn’t look like that will happen, however.
Also, the last time I checked, Hearts and Aberdeen are competing for the right to be the best team in the bottom half of the table.
