Game Day #2: Chants, Chants, Chants

Posted by stevetoro On April - 12 - 2008

Yo, Toros –

Here’s the gameplan for our match against the hated Toros Rojos de Nueva York, those scions of globalization, corporate greed, mediocre over-caffeinated beverages, and traitorous Colombian coaches (Osorio, anyone?).

  • 7:00:The Toros Banner is unfurled.  See Kirkbhoy work with zip ties and 30 odd feet worth of vinyl.
  • 7:00 - 7:30: Toros songsheets are handed out to people in 126.  See StevieToro try to work the crowd.
  • 7:30:  Game on.  (We’ll be singing when we’re winning… and if we’re not…)

We’ll be leading 4 Section-wide (hopefully) cheers throughout the game:

  •  +15 minutesOle, Ole, Ola
This is generally easy, something that everybody knows, and it’ll be a gentle introduction to our special brand of fun.  Look at this as a warm-up for the people who sit behind us.

  • +30 minutes:  Marching on for Dallas
I’ve adapted the first part of the Leeds United team song, which depends on a steady straight-four beat from the crowd to keep going.  I figure we’ll start off the beat, and then we’ll sing this:

Here we go with FC Dallas (CLAP CLAP CLAP)
We’re gonna give our boys a hand (CLAP CLAP CLAP)
Stand up and sing for FC Dallas (CLAP CLAP CLAP)
They’re the greatest in the land (CLAP CLAP CLAP)

[SteveToro notes:  Next week, we can do the "Everywhere we go, we're all out for..." interlude between verses.  I'm sure I'll bum out some die-hard Leeds fans with my adaptation of this, but I think it's pretty easy, pretty  fun, and the steady clapping is easy to keep going across the section.  I'll sing the tune for anyone before the game, and I don't mind leading it.]

  •  +50 minutes:  Morrow’s Army
Two songs with words?  Yeah.  That’s how I roll.  This one’s set to “Jesus loves the little children”.

We’re all part of Morrow’s Army
We’re all out to win the league
We will really shake ‘em up
when we win the MLS Cup
‘Cause Dallas has the greatest soccer team!

  • +75 minutes:  Let’s Go, Dallas!
Old standard.  If they’re not already doing this at this point, we’d just better focus on ourselves.  Or enlist some of Las Chicas Makitas.

That’s about it.  I’m partial to the Stand up, if you Love Dallas/Hate New York chant (think “Go West” by the Pet Shop Boys (or on second thought, don’t…)) as well, but that might be one that we leave to ourselves for the time-being.

Be sure to bring your noisemakers, horns, cowbells, etc. — we’ll need them tonight if we’re going to get the section involved!
