Monday Morning Pescadito (semi-RIP?): May 26, 2008

MMP editor-in-chief missed the game tonight as he was out of town. Furthermore, the earliest he could possibly watch the game–or any game, for that matter–is late Monday night.

Perhaps some other Los Toros member will post some words of praise for Dominic Oduro (wasn’t he close to getting cut earlier this season due to international spots?).

P.S., the (semi-RIP?) is due to Carlos Ruiz being on the bench for the LA-KC game, but as of the time of this posting, he has not been in the game. If I find out Alan Gordon gets substituted in first, I might just die laughing.

P.P.S., I’m not too happy with DeMarcus Beasley right now, but I’ll just leave you with this (those are Tommy Burns shirts they’re wearing):

Gordon did come in before Ruiz, but I see you managed to survive.

What’s Beasley done to annoy you?

In the Scottish Cup final, Beasley scored a goal, assisted on another (a corner), and was fouled to set of the free kick that led to the only other goal for Rangers. Considering they only managed to beat Queen of the South 3-2, he might have been the difference between a mildly successful season for Rangers and a hilariously embarassing one.

Anger becomes annoyance when one considers some of the horrendous performances DMB has put in for the MNT. Let me illustrate, in 2 dimensions:

    [Beasley]..[ball]……………..[goal]

Notice the [goalie] isn’t in the picture. Now imagine this is a major tournament (the Gold Cup). Now imagine the above ASCII text is practically actual size. Now imagine missing this shot.

Beasley’s touch comes in two forms: mildly acceptable and scratch-your-eyes-out painful. Luckily I’ve seen him miss at least one of those for Rangers also.

Just watched the highlights (TiVo never captured the full game, apparently).

People will give Oduro lots of credit for this nice finish on the second goal, but the first took more skill, in my opinion. Truly “Henrik Larsson”-eqse. Real pretty stuff.

A hilarious embarrassing season would have been more enjoyable for me to watch.. but getting to the UEFA Cup Final is an achievement in itself.. (even if you lose). Didn’t get to see the Queens Park game, but will just look out for the Queens Park goals on youtube to satisfy my curiosity and desire to watch people score against Rangers.

It felt good to beat them at Pittodrie last week though. Nice way to end their season for them..

Looks like we were wrong on both counts.

    - Mine that Rangers might finish above Celtic

    - Yours that Aberdeen would at best finish 6th. Not that 4th means anything.
